LCD televisions use a technology called liquid crystal display. Directors are placed in right angles, where liquid crystals are placed in between. These came out more expensive, like most new products would be. But, people saw the beauty and functionality this kind of television brings. These are light, not bulky, more energy efficient and do not emit the same amount of radiation compared to their CRT counterparts.

There are still people who use CRT televisions and computer monitors, especially those in the third world countries. However, most people now use LCD televisions.
