Do you want to write a book? – Understanding the process

Have you ever dreamed of becoming a book writer? If so, have you thought about how much work that it actually requires in order to write a book? It requires a tremendous amount just to write a rough draft, let alone the numerous rewrites before the publication. A vast majority of the people that want to write a book never even start, let alone get past the rewriting process. Will you be able to overcome that? Can you prove that you are above average by finishing that book? Have you even started writing? If you truly want to achieve your dream of writing that book, then get started right now. The longer you wait, the more likely that your book will never get finished. Due to how life tends to work, time will slip away faster than you can ever imagine. Little distractions will keep interrupting you every day, until before you know it, it’s thirty years later. Start the book now while you still can, otherwise you may regret it in the future.

If you want to write a book and you haven’t gotten started, you have to ask yourself, “Why not?” Are you afraid that your writing is not as good as you thought? Do you find it hard to sit down and work on your book? Do you find yourself lacking the time or energy to work on it? If you actually want to write this book, you have to think of the sacrifices necessary in order to achieve your dream. If you find that you cannot keep up with the demands of writing, you may as well quit now and don’t kid yourself. If you keep waiting for the perfect opportunity to write, you will never start. If you are afraid that your writing is not good enough, it will never get better unless you actually write and practice. Think about why you really want to write this book, and if your reasons are strong enough, you will feel the need to actually start writing. Otherwise, stop making excuses.

The process of writing a book requires several drafts before the product is finished. Essentially, you will need to write and edit your book at least three or four times before you publish it. It takes a lot of willpower to work on and eventually finish that book. It can also be scary because you may fear being rejected. Perhaps your book is not perfect enough, so you want to keep working on it. Perhaps you never start writing your book because the circumstances are never perfect. Unless you have an urging to write, being a book writer can be a hard occupation. If you dream of writing a book and you never got started, perhaps being a novelist is not for you.
